The CLD Test

Sean Stephens-2
Lassoers

I'd love some feedback from the individuals who have written the CLD test.

Was it difficult? Is it too easy?
How long did it take you?
Do you think it accurately tests an individual in their Lasso knowledge?
Any suggestions?

So far, no-one has failed, not even by a long shot. A few people even got 100%.

Please email me off-list if you have a specific recommendations.

Thanks!

I thought it was interesting. I would rather see a few better real
world examples for the code tests. One of them was bizarre IMO. The
only other thing that I think you definitely need is, how do we know
what ones we failed on? I mean, great I passed but if I missed any
that I need to improve on, how do I know?

Thanks for asking :)

Hi Sean,

As Alex said, it would be good to have feedback on what we got wrong.

How large is the pool of questions?  I suspect the multiple choice answers
are randomised, but the mix of questions drawn from a pool is a tough thing
to do (we do it in relation to crime prevention).

Very best regards,

Rick

As already mentioned, where we did wrong would be good info.

Some of the questions I thought were too far from real world examples.
The more abstract, the harder to relate. Even more so if you're
targeting others than hard core programmers.

What I really missed was information prior to the test:
- What level of experience is required?
- How should I prepare for the test?
- Do I need access to Lasso Professional 8.5?
- Do I need access to Lasso 9?
- Do I need access to the admin pages, or is it sufficient with just
access to upload Lasso script files?

Other specifics I've already emailed to Rachel.

Was I one of them, with 100%?? Curious, because there was no feedback.

Did you expect some of us to fail? Hmmm?

If we pass, doesn't that say that we deserve the CLD title? If we find it easy, isn't that just because we are good at it?

What do you want? I could ask my neighbor if you like. He surely will not pass and tell you that it's an impossible test.

Hi Marc, sorry the process to include the pass mark back to you isn't automated yet, but we will build the ability to view your test into your account... on the to-do list :)
In the meantime we're happy to give you your mark - just send a request to info@lassosoft

Also Göran - The test includes questions with a range of difficulty. The reason that some are more confusing or abstract is that sometimes a good developer is presented with someone else's code that doesn't make sense, and has to work out what it is supposed to do, and why it doesn't. That IS real world (even if the specific code isn't the best).

There's really only one question like that, so it's kind of like an 'honors' question - you don't have to get it correct, but it gives you kudos if you do :)

We agree, but use different wording. I guess you misunderstood my
conclusion about those questions bringing a slight distinction of expertise.

Re: The CLD Test

Mark Palmer

I was pleasantly surprised by the diversity of the questions and the fact that with two of mine you could argue over which answer was 'more' correct - I flipped a coin in the end

I've barely done 60 minutes of Lasso 9 code so the syntax on those questions made me head scratch a little.

Took me about 15-20 minutes.

Re: The CLD Test

I've been using Lasso since v3 and still consider myself intermediate at best. I found the test to be surprisingly short and little easy, but was relieved when I passed. Took about 30 minutes and seemed liked a solid, broad range of questions. I would suggest a longer list of questions for the test, and offer a short example set (not in the test) upfront.

Thanks,
Max
