Problem with passing array with include_url

James Sheffer
Hey all-

I’ve come across this eons ago but for the life of me can’t figure out how to resolve the issue!

When I try to pass and array using the redirect_url tag, it comes across as a string.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Too short description of problem and no code.

In what sense do you want to pass on an array? Redirect is something you let Lasso instruct the browser to do. URLs knows nothing about arrays.

Do you want the data in the array to be passed on as params or what?

You cannot pass Lasso objects (an array) over the web.

Do you instead want to pass key/value pairs as HTTP GET parameters?

Re: Problem with passing array with include_url

James Sheffer
Thanks for the help, and apologies for the short question with no code to reference.

I have an array that, upon error, I would like to pass back to another page and then do the processing there.

I can break the array down to pairs and send as a regular key/value pairs as well - I just wanted to make sure I wasn’t missing some other way :-)

Thanks!  I was just now setting up the array as a global variable - I think that’s what I had to do a long long time ago :-)

Re: Problem with passing array with include_url

In reply to this post by James Sheffer
A redirect is probably not what you want to do.

    if(error)
        // redirect?  why is this a good idea?

It would be better to have logic that performs the second block upon error of the first.

    if(error)
        // do this code block, preserving the Lasso object already used

Re: Problem with passing array with include_url

In reply to this post by James Sheffer
Piling a session object or a global variable or thread on top is
also a bad idea.  Search the archives for why global variables
are a terrible idea.

You already have the Lasso object available in memory, so why
serialize it into a session and increase memory usage or have a
call to a session database?
