If you have a personal PayPal account, I would suggest leaving that alone
and registering a new PayPal account in the name of your business.  You can
read about your options with PayPal here:

Hi Micheal

Firstly, you don't really want your visitors to enter their card details on your site. If you do you will need to get involved with PCI compliance and the new Strong Customer Authentication (SCA) standard.

Register as a Paypal developer and generate a number of Sandbox accounts these are fake PayPal accounts you can use to test your solution with.

We use the IPN (instant payment notification) system where basically you POST data to the Paypal url and they do the charging. They have a return and callback url. The callback url is the most important, as that's how you know if the transaction passed or not.

Good luck with your solution.

I use PayPal for some things and have for years, but I would suggest looking at what Stripe.com <http://stripe.com/> offers.

I find that their documentation and services offers a much better service at the same price, and it is easier to implement. I have code that I would be happy to share with you.

A little more information about exactly why you need to collect payment and for what might be helpful in getting help finding the best solution.

I user PayPal’s Pay Flow Link on my Lasso site. It is the simplest option in my opinion and very easy to implement using Lasso. I’m more than happy to share code.

https://developer.paypal.com/docs/classic/products/payflow-gateway/#related-products <https://developer.paypal.com/docs/classic/products/payflow-gateway/#related-products>

PayPal processes credit cards on their end so you don’t have to worry about PCI compliance.

Kevin,

Thanks, yes I would like to see the code you mention below.

And would you be interested in doing a little consulting?

We're on a tight timeline and would love some guidance.

May I call you?

Re: Paypal interface for my website

John Torres-3
Michael,

I am so sorry I lost track of this email! That is my fault. If you, or anyone else needs code to get you moving using PayFlow Link from PayPal, here is what I have that works well for me.

I essentially just pass a few variables on via a post form. PayPal provides documentation of all of the parameters that they accept, but here is what I use:

        <body topmargin="0" leftmargin="0" marginheight="0" marginwidth="0" onLoad="javascript:document.cc.submit();”>
                 <form method=post action="https://payflowlink.paypal.com" name="cc”>
                        <input type="hidden" name="LOGIN" value=“YOUR_LOGIN”>
                        <input type="hidden" name="PARTNER" value=“YOUR_PARTNER_CODE”>
                        <input type="hidden" name="AMOUNT" value="[$total]”>
                        <input type="hidden" name="TYPE" value="S”>
                        <input type="hidden" name="DESCRIPTION" value=“[$Short_Description]”>
                        <input type="hidden" name="EMAIL" value=“[$email]”>
                        <input type="hidden" name="-Nothing”>
                </form>
         </body>

While PayPal will send a confirmation email to the purchaser, I always send back a custom confirmation email to the purchaser as well that is branded and customized. One thing to note though, PayFlow Link doesn’t return parameters back to you such as a confirmation number or anything like that so you have to get creative if you need to return that data back to your customers.

Again, sorry for the dropped ball! Hope this helps others.

Just a heads up that this type of PayPal integration has security issues
and is deprecated.  I suggest moving to the encrypted button method (either
the static button manager or the dynamic button API):
