[OT] FileMaker 11 question - how best to calculate percentage of people who multiple conferences

Tami Williams-3
I have a Filemaker 11 database with People related to Conference Registration.

1 person may have 1 or more conference registration records.

What is the best way (calc/script) to answer this question:

What percent of people attended the 2010 and 2012 conference?

(Note: the user would pick a series of years (2-4) and want the percent that attended all)

Thanks in advance.

Percent of what? Of the number of people in the database?

Anyway, you can start with the count function.

There are many ways to set it up. For example, if you have a table for
Persons and another for Registrations, you could set up separate calc
fields in Registrations, reg2012,reg2013 and reg2014 which get the value
of 1 if the registration is for that year. Then you can use

        Count(Registrations::r2012)

...to get the total of registrations for that year.

Hi Tami,
You could write a script as follows:

Show all in People, then set a first variable to the found count.
Find People such that they are related to both 2010 and 2012 Conference Registration records, then set a second variable to the found count.
Divide the second variable by the first.

The tricky part will be the second find, and how to do that will depend on exactly how your database relationships are set up. It could be a two-step find, e.g., Find People such that they have related 2010 Conference Registration records, then do a Constrain Found Set to People such that they have related 2012 Conference Registration records.

Hope this helps.
Tom
