[OT] Apache 1.3 to Apache 2.2 upgrade issue

shelane
We just updated the OS on one of our servers from 10.4 to 10.5. We then
updated the Apache to 2.2. The problem I'm having is that I can't get sites
on port 80 to serve anything and I can't get redirects working from 80 to
443 for the sites that should be on SSL. However, if I type in the https
manually, that site is served fine.

This is the redirect we have in place (which worked under Apache 1.3):

RedirectMatch ^/(.*) "https://scs.llnl.gov/$1"

stevepiercy
Do you get any error message or log entry either in Lasso or
Apache when you request a file on port 80?

I watch the logs and hit a file and it doesn't even register anything.

Re: [OT] Apache 1.3 to Apache 2.2 upgrade issue

stevepiercy
It sounds like you have an issue with the host not resolving
somewhere along the line.  Make sure you have:
* DNS configured to point to the proper machine for the
requested host
* a host entry in the hosts file (/private/etc/hosts)
* Apache configured to recognize the requested host

Use lookup to confirm DNS.

Also the Apache config for 2.2 is in a different location than 1.3:
/private/etc/apache2/httpd.conf

And vhosts are here:
/private/etc/apache2/extra/httpd-vhosts.conf

We found that it wanted the IP actually specified instead of leaving it at
ANY.

Out of curiosity and as an example, do you mean this works:

<VirtualHost 192.168.0.1:443>

and this failed:

<VirtualHost *:443>

?

Re: [OT] Apache 1.3 to Apache 2.2 upgrade issue

shelane
Sort of. The 443 never had a problem if I actually entered https. The sites
on port 80 didn't work unless I added the IP. So this:

worked:

 <VirtualHost 192.168.0.1:80>

failed:

 <VirtualHost *:80>

Now we have everything working fine including our site that redirects from
http to https

that would make me suspicious that you have something else running on  port 80 on some ip other than 192.168.0.1
