Migration to Filemaker 11

lizquigg
I am working on a migration path and have three questions.

Is Lasso 8.5 compatible with Filemaker 11 Server? Do I need Advanced?

Can I still use Classic Syntax if I have to move to Lasso 9? I still might have some hanging around.

I am using VMWare and am making another Filemaker server.  Can I just export the Lasso settings, edit the settings to point to the new Filemaker server, and import it into my Lasso server?  I am trying to avoid doing this by hand.   I know I can do it if I make a new Lasso Server, but I want to use the same Lasso Server.

8.5 Works with 11, and lasso 9 does support classic syntax, but its a bit
more strict with errors.  Not to sure about exporting 8.5 to 9.

Yes.

Possibly.  See the Filemaker website for comparing FMS and FMSA
to determine whether you need the features of Advanced.  From
Lasso's perspective, it does not matter which version you choose.

I don't know for sure, but I vaguely recall that Lasso 9 does
not support Classic Lasso syntax, so hopefully someone who knows
for sure can answer.

Here's what the 8.6 Language Guide says:

Classic Lasso syntax in which complete database operations
are performed
through HTML form inputs or URLs has been deprecated.  Its
use is no
     longer recommended.

In other words, use inline instead.

Also see:
http://www.lassosoft.com/Curing-Vintage-Syntax-Addiction
http://www.lassosoft.com/Migration-Guide-What-Has-Changed

Code that uses colon syntax will still work, but the 9 parser is
more strict and it may return errors.

Note that "colon syntax" is often confused with "Classic Lasso
syntax", but they are completely different realms.

If it's just database settings, I found it's just faster and
more reliable to do it by hand.  Use the "All Tables" link to
enable and assign permissions for tables, instead of clicking
each table.

Assuming that you are migrating an entire Lasso configuration, see:
http://lasso.2283332.n4.nabble.com/Help-with-transferring-Lasso-settings-tt3112821.html#a3112831

The Settings Migrator does not do everything one needs.
