LassoConnector2.2.so

Marc Vos
Hi,

General question: why does Lasso 8.6.0.1 install a 233/236KB big .so from April 6, 2011 in /usr/libexec/apache2 and is the separate download only 113/117KB and from October 2011?

What's the key difference? Because only the latter one works in 10.8 whilst the earliest also works in 10.7.

My bet is that the difference in size has to do with platform support. (Universal binary vs. intel only or 32 and 64 bit vs. 64 bit only)

Re: LassoConnector2.2.so

I think that too, but I do not understand why the installer can't be modified to recognise the 10.8 platform and install the correct .so.

That's why I want to know why I need to download the .so separately and keep a backup of it somewhere. I mean, 10.8 has been given to developers already for quite some time...

Re: LassoConnector2.2.so

Eric Knibbe
If you peek inside the installer archive, you'll see it contains two Lasso8ConnectorforApache2.2.so files for 10.5 and 10.6, the latter being half the size of the former. Running the `file` command on them reveals why: the 10.5 connector is a universal binary with ppc, ppc64, i386, and x86_64 architectures. The connector for 10.6 drops the PPC code.

So apparently what's happening is when the 8.6.0.1 installer is run on 10.7 or later, it installs the 10.5 connector by default. That installer was released on April 12, 2011 and hasn't been touched since. But now that 10.8 is out, an installer update for Lasso 8.6 is hopefully imminent.
