Lasso9 Load Select Data from table

Steven McIntosh
I know that most of you have contemplated this, and I usually find a workaround or end up installing lots of javascript, etc… I have a form that starts with two drop-down SELECT items and the 2nd SELECT is dependent on the chosen option in the 1st SELECT.

Does anyone have any examples in Lasso where they load the data for one element on the same page just after selecting the first element? I’m assuming that JSON would come into this, but I’ve never touched the stuff before.

Thanks for any assistance!

Re: Lasso9 Load Select Data from table

In reply to this post by Steven McIntosh
JQuery makes this easy.  You can bind the load function to the change event on the first select and simply load an HTML fragment containing the options for the second select.

[fletcher]

select_example.lasso
<html>
  <head>
    <script src="//ajax.googleapis.com/ajax/libs/jquery/1.9.1/jquery.min.js"></script>
    <script>
      $(document).ready(function(){
        $("#make").change(function(e){
          $("#model").load('select_data.lasso?make=' + escape($("#make").val()));
          return false;
        });
      });
    </script>
  </head>
  <body>
    <br>Make:
    <select name="make" id="make">
       <option value="">Select a Make</option>
       <option value="Honda">Honda</option>
       <option value="Toyota">Toyota</option>
     </select>
     <br>Model:
     <select name="model" id="model">
       <option value="0"></option>
     </select>
  </body>
</html>

select_data.lasso
[if(action_param('make') == 'honda')]
  <option value="11">Civic</option>
  <option value="12">Fit</option>
  <option value="13">Prelude</option>
[else(action_param('make') == 'toyota')]
  <option value="14">Corolla</option>
  <option value="15">Prius</option>
  <option value="16">Sienna</option>
[else]
  <option value="0"></option>
[/if]

Steffan,

When I see this, it’s because I’ve hit the 5 IP address limit allowed for the developer edition. (The first 5 IP addresses can still view the site, but all new ones are blank - you may see an error in your lasso log.) You probably just need to add / update the license to your instance.
