Lasso IWP and FileMaker 11

Diane Houdek
Has anyone got a two machine FileMaker 11 Server Advanced setup that has both Lasso 8.5.6 and IWP running against it? I'm trying to serve one filemaker database using IWP and another set of filemaker databases using Lasso files, both on the same web server machine.  I have no idea how to get IWP to display the database while Apache is running on port 80 and in Lasso Server Admin the host keeps disappearing from the FileMaker SA connector host list.

Help...

Thanks,
Diane

Are you saying that the FMSA host appears, then disappears, in
Lasso SiteAdmin?  Where specifically are you looking?  I've
never run into that issue before.

Suggest turning off IWP to isolate the issue.

Then walk through the FileMaker Server 11 Getting Started Guide
for two-server installation, just to make sure you did not miss
anything.  There are a bunch of subtle details that are easy to miss.
http://www.filemaker.com/support/product/documentation.html

Finally use the FileMaker Server Advanced Quick Start guide from
LassoSoft to diagnose the issue between Lasso and FMSA.

Here is our set up that includes FMSA 11, lasso 8.x, and IWP. Works fine.

All boxes are OSX server.

FMSA set up using basic 2 box config, where box 1 is server and box 2 is WPE. BOX 2 config for IWP, PHP, and XML.

LASSO/ web server is a third box that talks to box 2 via XML

Calls to database from FMP clients: FMNET:/ box 1
Calls to lasso: http:// box 3
Calls to IWP: http:// box 2

Re: Lasso IWP and FileMaker 11

Thomas,

Very interesting, so in essence you've split it out to a three server configuration.  I'm assuming you don't have apache running on box 2, but you do have apache running on box 3? Thank you so much for the help - I saw your post from July and hoped that you would have some insight.

We're running a two server configuration with fmp server on one, and the wpe/webserver on the other (all on Mac OS 10.6) and because I've never run IWP, I didn't realize you couldn't have your lasso/web server on the same machine that you served IWP from.

Thank you so much for the help - I saw your post from July and hoped that you would have some insight. Can I ask more specific questions if I run up against them?

Cheers,
Diane

Re: Lasso IWP and FileMaker 11

Waters, Thomas C
Apache is running on both 2 and 3. Box 3 is our main webserver bit serves both HTML and LASSO. We do not run all web through Lasso, although I realize many do that. We set up our FMSA set up as a 2 box config following those instructions exactly, when we weren't using IWP at all. So for us the whole has almost always been a 3 box set up with FMS using 2 boxes. Since the slave FMS box was capable of IWP and I needed something quick one day, I turned it on, and I'm using it for a bunch of stuff now.

Our roadmap moving forward is to keep FMSA, but start replacing Lasso with use of the PHP API. We haven't started that transition yet. We expect to see more use of FileMaker Go here too.
