Lasso 9 and Filemaker 13

Jonathan Guthrie-3
Hi all,

Paul's written a step-by-step sequence to install Lasso 9 and Filemaker 13 on the same machine, available here:
http://www.lassosoft.com/Connecting-Lasso-9-and-Filemaker-13

Feedback welcome, the comments module is at the foot of the article!

Thanks
Jono

It's not necessary to restart the entire FileMaker Server process after
step 5.  Instead, just restart FileMaker's web server:

sudo /Library/FileMaker Server/HTTPServer/bin/httpdctl graceful

Thanks John for adding this tip, if you can add that comment directly on the page - that would be most helpful to users not on this list.

Re: Lasso 9 and Filemaker 13

In reply to this post by Rachel Guthrie
(Here's what I remember)

I followed the instructions a week ago and even though it _did_ get FileMaker 13 and Lasso 9 on the same machine:

- the FileMaker Server Admin links to the help and test and webdirect pages did _not_ work

- I couldn't get Lasso 9 + Lasso 8 + PHP + Lasso9 in Terminal +  FileMaker 13 to all run on the same machine

So, in the end I uninstalled FM13 Server from my laptop and put it back on Parallels.

Re: Lasso 9 and Filemaker 13

Jonathan Guthrie-3
Hi Tami - that's exactly how I deal with this myself.
FM lives on a Windows VM that I fire up when I need to develop with it, test or troubleshoot.

The fundamental problem is in the way Filemaker is designed to be the only thing running on any given server - that way they can opt out of any interoperability issues with playing nice with other software.

The instructions give a path that works for a specific scenario, and as soon as you step outside that, all bets are off.

I strongly recommend the two server situation, where you keep your FM on one server (or VM) and Lasso 8, 9 or whatever, on another. That way updates to FM - however minor - are less likely to nuke your production environment, or even dev. We get a lot of support incidents after minor updates to FM - generally clients lose the ability to serve and have to go round and round the "install, uninstall, install, uninstall, install" merry-go-round.

Sorry we can't be clearer on the full path, it's an ongoing game of ping-pong with FM and Lasso is not the only middleware product that has these headaches in this situation.

Thanks
Jono
