Lasso 8.5.4 MySQL not responding to Lasso b/c Error: too many connections ( -609) - how to permanently fix this?

Tami Williams
I just got off a emergency call from someone I've never spoken to before who's site was down.

First, in Lasso Site Admin all the MySQL tables were "Enabled".
But, when I tried to select * from a table using Lasso's Database Browser I got Error: too many connections ( -609).
Then in Lasso Site Admin I could see that all the MySQL tables for the site were "not available".

Using System Preferences I stopped and re-started the MySQL server.

So now their site is back up.

What caused this and how do I permanently fix it?

Is it something in the MySQL config file?  Apache config?  Lasso itself?  The server hardware?

Thanks in advance.

If you have too many connections for the MySQL Server to handle it will throw that error.
However that's something you can deal with to a large degree.

Increase the max connections
Lower the connection timeout, etc.

I haven't got the links etc handy, but there's plenty of info on Google about increasing the capacity of MySQL to handle more connections, and decreasing idle timeout etc.

Thanks
Jono

Adding to this, the path to options files can be found here:
        http://dev.mysql.com/doc/refman/5.7/en/option-files.html

(one of the comments also mentions default options for earlier OS X server versions)
