Internal server error

Anibal Escobar
Hi, I'm on Lasso 9, Centos.  I have 2 lasso instances on my server.
One of them is generating an ISE, the other one is running fine.  Is
there any way to restart the one with problems without issuing a
lassoimd restart command (which will restart both instances)?  I don't
have access to the instance manager.

Thanks,
Anibal Escobar

Re: Internal server error

stevepiercy
I did a little digging recently for a similar situation.
http://lasso.2283332.n4.nabble.com/How-to-start-non-daemonized-Lasso-and-manage-with-Supervisor-tp4641928p4641933.html

For example:

     /usr/sbin/lassoserver -flisten lasso.fastcgi.sock -user
_lasso -group _lasso

And you need to set the environment variables for the specific instance.

     LASSO9_HOME=/var/lasso/instances/default/
     LASSO9_MASTER_HOME=/var/lasso/home/

In reply to this post by Anibal Escobar
If you have access to the Admin area, you can run this in the quick code
area:

sys_exit(1)

That will cause the instance to stop and instance manager should then
fire it back up again.

Other then that, you'll need to determine which process ID it is and
kill it. (It will be one of the lassoserver processes...)

Re: Internal server error

Anibal Escobar
Hi, I've killed the process ID a couple of times, but the lasso
instance still returns an ISE. The lasso9 instance admin pages and all
of the other web pages associated with that instance return an ISE.
What else could be going on?

Thanks,
Anibal Escobar

Re: Internal server error

Not likely - I can tell when the instance stopped working and none of
the conf files had been modified around that time or since.  I checked
the sqlitedb's and the only one that had a recent modification date/
time was lasso_email. I emptied all of the tables in that db, but
still the ISE's.

Thanks,

Re: Internal server error

stevepiercy
Try removing all files from the instance startup, restart.
Still ISE?

If yes, ouch.

If no, add half of startup files back in, restart.  ISE now?

Repeat by adding/removing halves of startup files and restarting
until you isolate the culprit.

Re: Internal server error

Anibal Escobar
Marc Pope was helping me with this and he tried restarting with the
Instance Manager, but that didn't work either - he wasn't able to get
it to restart and I was still getting the ISE's. I did a service
lassoimd restart and I still got the ISE's.  Marc tried to delete the
instance from the instance manager, but it wouldn't allow him to
delete.  As a final solution, Marc created a new instance and gave it
the same matching criteria as the problem one.  At that point, he was
able to delete the problem instance and now I can get to the instance
manager. The new instance has the same startup folder contents as the
one that had problems, so I'm pretty sure that wasn't the problem. Is
the only other possibility corrupt sqlitedb tables?  What's a good way
to find the problem tables?

Thanks,
Anibal Escobar

Re: Internal server error

Anibal Escobar
I spoke too soon - it looks like the issue is a startup file after
all.  I'm going through them one by one to see which one is causing
the problem.

Thanks,

Re: Internal server error

Anibal Escobar
Mystery solved - there was a zero kb file in the startup folder.  This
caused the ISE.  The zero kb file must have occurred when there was a
BBEdit communication error while I was writing to that file.  I've
seen that happen from time to time.

Thanks,
Anibal Escobar

I strongly suggest all servers are using SVN or GIT checkouts of specific releases.
Working "live" on a server is a recipe for losing clients.
We are human and make mistakes, but there are some that are easily avoidable!!!

Sorry for being so blunt... a day of squashing bugs will do that to me.

Also suggest not doing checkouts directly from a repo into your
served directory, unless you like people browsing through your
git or svn history.  Instead pull from remote, rsync to served
directory with specific items excluded.

Additionally suggest doing this first an a test server VM.  If
it passes tests, then rsync from test to production.

If you use git and have your webroot folder inside your repository
(instead of being the repository), then you don't have to worry about
people reading your history. This is because everything is in the .git/
directory at the top, unlike SVN which has a .svn directory inside every
tracked folder.

Also, you could set up your web server to not serve from folders or
files whose name starts with a period. That seems equivalent to setting
up rsync to not copy those folders and you get rsync out of the equation.
