Informal poll: Browser preference

Jonathan Guthrie-5
OK so on the subject of Elationships.com, browser toolbars are also on the menu...
I've done a version for Safari, and will be doing one for Chrome and FF, so my question is this:

What is your preferred browser for every day usage?

Safari
Chrome
Firefox
MSIE
(Other, please specify)

Please, no flames or judgements on what is best and what sucks... I'm looking for an honest response here!

Thanks

I have recently switched to Firefox almost exclusively, all the plugins are so powerful, Safari feels like a toy to me these days.

Mainly use Firefox and Google Chrome on Windows, Firefox and Safari on Mac.
80% of my time on Windows and 80% of that on Firefox, but I am starting to
enjoy the speed of Chrome.

Very best regards,

Mainly using Firefox for development due to plugins, but do find it a bit slow and a memory hog. It also seem to stubbornly cache stuff.

When I pop into Chrome and Safari they seem so fast compared to FF.

Firefox (for development because of plug-ins)
Test in Safari, Opera.
Will get Chrome when I upgrade OS
IE for testing if I really can't think of another excuse to put it off for a
bit longer.

Relegating Opera to the "other" category in a list like this, especially if you're a web developer and care at all about standards support, is a serious oversight. They may not have the numbers that the other major browser vendors do (on the desktop, at least), but they're important players in the evolution of both web standards and browser innovation. Many UI concepts that are now typical across all browsers were pioneered by the Opera team; just one example is the "top sites" display for empty tabs, which was originally introduced in Opera as "speed dial."

That being said, Chrome (more specifically the Chromium nightlies) currently has the best overall balance of raw speed, cutting edge HTML5/CSS3 support, developer tools, and extensibility, making it my daily browser of choice, though by the end of a typical workday I've got a half dozen tabs open in all of'em.

>> Please, no flames or judgements on what is best and what sucks... I'm looking for an honest response here!

Well if you're being honest and explaining your decision you're hopefully making some sort of judgment. ;)

Good call Jason.
[ Jono slaps himself with a wet kipper ]

Updated list:

Safari
Chrome
Firefox
Opera
MSIE
(Other, please specify)

FWIW, I love this sort of feedback... I have expected not a lot of devs would day-to-day use MSIE but I was curious... and it looks like Chrome has a good foot-hold.

If anyone is interested in checking out the Safari wishlist bar, the URL is: http://www.elationships.com/apps/elationships.safariextz
You have to be logged in to elationships for it to save your wishlist items, and future updates will allow you to log in from it, as well as the ability to random browse through your friend's wishlist items a la stumbleupon.

I'll be doing at least Chrome and FF versions soon.

Firefox, mostly because it has the best web dev extensions and syncs my

If I wasn't a web developer I'd use Chromium because it's insanely fast.
