[If][Else] question

kimonostereo

Hi all,

Another newbie question for you all.

I have a form that I've added a pass phrase into and I'm getting
confused.

Seems like my If else statements are working but in the end nothing
gets entered into the database.

Can anyone tell me what I'm doing wrong?

this is kinda what the response page looks like but nothing is going
into the database....

[var:'captcha'=(action_param:'captcha')]
[If: (Error_CurrentError) != (Error_NoError)]An error has occurred.
([Error_CurrentError: -ErrorCode] [Error_CurrentError])

[Else: ($captcha) != 'midpac']<h3>Sorry! Please click your back
button and re-enter the phrase correctly.</h3>

[Else]

<form action="undefined" method="POST">

Thanks for submitting!

[Inline: (Action_Params), -Database='database', -Table='Layout #1', -
Add][/inline]

[/If]

thanks!

Sorry for being unclear!

This is on the response page after the form has been sent to this page.

Re: [If][Else] question

Brian Loomis
your add inline may need a username password combination.

"Layout #1" Tells me you are using FileMaker, so if you use
[Action_Statement] you will be able to see the query generated.

Re: [If][Else] question

kimonostereo
Thanks Brian,

What is strange is that this form response page works perfectly if I
remove the captcha part of it and the Else statements. Everything
from the form goes right into the database....

I'll try the username and password combination.

Re: [If][Else] question

are you outputting your [Action_Params] and getting the same thing
either way except for the Captcha addition?  Or do they change?

Re: [If][Else] question

Yes I'm outputting select action params in a form response to the
person who submitted. It doesn't change. The captcha phrase doesn't
go into the database at all i'm just verifying it once it hits the
response page.

Re: [If][Else] question

Brian Loomis
does your inline throw an error?

[Inline: (Action_Params), -Database='database', -Table='Layout #1', -
Add]

[Error_CurrentError: -ErrorCode] [Error_CurrentError]

[/inline]

Your [if] statement allows for three responses, which one do you get?  The error response, the "sorry, wrong phrase" response or the "thanks" response?

If you're getting either of the first two, then the reason your record isn't being added is because either there was an error or you entered an incorrect phrase.  If you're getting the "thanks" response, and it works without the extra code, then check if your actual code is wrapped within an inline, which would prevent the action_params from being passed inside of it.

Re: [If][Else] question

Rick Draper
In reply to this post by kimonostereo
Hi Scott,

Your captcha is going to be part of your action_params, so if you do not
want all the form params to be submitted, you will need to strip out the
ones you want and just submit those.

Very best regards,

Rick

Thanks Brian,

What is strange is that this form response page works perfectly if I
remove the captcha part of it and the Else statements. Everything from
the form goes right into the database....

I'll try the username and password combination.

If the user forgets to fill out a field that is required, they get
the standard Lasso error field required.
If the user enters the incorrect passphrase they get the Sorry wrong
passphrase
If the user enters all required fields and the correct passphrase, no
error is generated

except:
102 Error while performing FileMaker database -add action.

but all action params show up on the repsonse page with the thank you
for submitting.

P.S.

As an option, use fields starting with something unique (eg "x_") and
grab just those.  There is probably a more elegant way to do this, but
the following is based on what I do...

<FORM NAME="NewAdd" ACTION="responsepage.html" METHOD="post" >
<INPUT TYPE="hidden" NAME="Action" VALUE="Add">
<INPUT TYPE="hidden" NAME="Submit" VALUE="OK">

<input type="text" name="x_Field_01" size="20" class="formfield"
value="">

Thanks Brian,

What is strange is that this form response page works perfectly if I
remove the captcha part of it and the Else statements. Everything from
the form goes right into the database....

I'll try the username and password combination.

Do you have a field called "captcha" that can store the value "midpac"?

If not, that's the add error.  As Rick points out, you have to filter it out of action_params.  Or even better, only allow the values you're expecting.

Re: [If][Else] question

Thanks Bil and Rick!

This solved the problem. I just added the captcha field to the
database and now it works.
In the future I'll do what Rick advised and filter them out!

thanks again!
