Re: Happy 10 Years Lasso

Paul Melia
Congratulations to the entire Lasso family (that includes you Cathy
Cunningham) on 10 years of great work!

Brett, you should add an entry to the Wikipedia article (http://
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lasso_programming_language) stating this
important milestone.

Re: Happy 10 Years Lasso (and Heunox)

Jim Van Heule-2
In reply to this post by Brett Circe
Congratulations!

Odd...

I had no idea that Lasso's 10 year anniversary coincides so closely
to our real estate business anniversary of 10 years this November 1,
2006 (a few weeks apart).

Our real estate business started with one static website in Nov 1996.
Afterwards, we contracted digital forest (Holly) and Michael Collins
to build our first Lasso-based solution using Lasso 2.0. It was then
that I "saw the light" and started coding in Lasso on my own.

Beginning with one real estate site 10 years ago we have grown to
handling over 3,000 real estate agents with 130+ domains. Using LP
8.5.1 and MySQL, last month we handled over 10 million hits, 200,000
unique visitors and 80GB of data transfer. I think Lasso ramped up
nicely in the past 10 years as both of our businesses have grown.

I think that goes to show how intertwined Lasso's success has been
with our own business success and why I've been so evangelical about
Lasso.

Thank you Lasso for 10 great years!

----

For those that are interested, the Wayback Machine does show the
original site back in 1998 (as far back as it finds it). Well, parts
of it actually.

Here it is today...

A lot has changed in 10 years.

Hi,

Brett's announcement (wrong or right, if he's a month off...so what,
its still 10 years give or take), got me to thinkin...how LONG have a
I been a Lasso developer ?  Thanks to Bil Corry I have my answer,
well sort of.  It was a starting point. I really had to dig through
some emails, and many names I had forgotten, to find the specific
date that I actually plunked down 350 bux for Lasso 1.2.  Even though
I actually started with 1.1.

I've been party to Lasso community since June 1997.

Do you remember when you started ?

The dawn of the millennia - Early 2000, version 3.6x

Skipped v5 went straight to v6 and beyond...

It has evolved by some margin since then, big thanks to all involved!

June 26, 1997 was my first purchase of lasso.  Version 1.2
I can't recall how long before that I had "demo'd" lasso.

I have my invoice sitting here from Blue World Communications dated October 29, 1996 for "Lasso 1.0 Special Kickoff Promo. Offer" - I was using the Lasso beta before that, but I'm uncertain when exactly I started.

I've owned and used every version of Lasso.

We paid for a Lasso 3.5 license on October 10, 1999.

Hard to believe that it has been 7 years.

Like Jim Van Heule, we've found that Lasso has grown to meet our needs.

Jim, is that YOU in the tub? :)

Wow. Those Jottings from Jim bring back a whole lot of memories when
I was in the paint and coatings industry. I had the unique
opportunity to be a monthly columnist for the largest coatings
magazine at that time and was allowed to write about anything I
selected. I think the one about if woman belong in industry tells a
lot about my roots and how much things have changed.

Ditto that, 1999 Lasso 3.6.x on a B&W G3 with WebStar and FM Pro 4, my
very first site was an e-commerce site, and it worked pretty well too.
:-)  Sadly it has been replaced with all flash goodies.
