Great testing tool for Macs

Steve Upton

Hi All,

If you are a Mac user (for development) you might want to take a look at a free tool that's offered with Apple's Xcode development kit.

It's called "Network Link Conditioner" and it allows "shaping" of the network connection on your machine for simulating / testing slower links.

We do a lot of development in Xojo (was called RealBasic) and a popular developer wrote up where to find the tool via Xcode.

You can read about it in his blog here:

http://www.bkeeneybriefs.com/2013/12/network-link-conditioner/

I thought us Lassoers (the other 1/2 of my development brain) would like to know about it.

regards,

Steve Upton

Re: Great testing tool for Macs

Jewett, Greg
Ok, I am being thick!  (*Sorry*)

I have Xcode already installed (I do some side programming) and use the tools.  However I did a spot light search - nada.   I opened the Xcode package, and look around - nada.
I have the latest installed.  Where is it hiding?

I did as suggested and searched for Xcode and found only a couple of items, none of them: "Network Link Conditioner”.

Re: Great testing tool for Macs

My apologies, forgot its an additional component for Xcode.

Use this menu item:
Xcode > Open Developer Tool > More Developer Tools...
... get "Hardware IO Tools for Xcode".
