Give me a beep when done

Jolle Carlestam-2
Here’s a tiny tidbit that I found out yesterday semi related to Lasso.
I tend to do a lot of compiling of Lassoapps and some of the apps are fairly large. As a consequence of that I find myself frequently sitting idle at my computer staring at the CLI row waiting for the make process to finish so that I can move the compiled apps to the proper directory and then restart the instance. My new knowledge from yesterday was that I can have the terminal play me a sound when the process is done, alerting me to it so I can do other things while waiting. Here’s how to do it.

Write:
make -B appname.lassoapp another_appname.lassoapp; tput bel;

That’s it! tput bel will play a discrete but sufficient beep letting me know the process is done.

Further breakdown on the proposed command line.
”make" is the command to compile, in this case, Lassoapps.
-B is a flag to instruct make to compile even if make considers the app(s) to be unchanged.
You can stash several lassoapps after one another instructing make to compile all of them in one go.
The ; is an instruction to the OS that you’re done with the command and it’s flags and that allows you to write another command on the same line.
tput bel is an instruction to the OS to play a beep on the terminal you’re sitting at.

Have fun!

We actually had, and I believe they still have, that cartoon printed out and put on the wall of the Amtac office. A place that, by the way, is the undisputed master of procrastination. If you don’t believe me, ask Rick.

Chinese Characters in an email ..

Michael Benedict
Hello,

Is it possible to Send Chinese Characters in HTML coded docs using the
Email_Send: function.

I can change the encoding and the page displays properly in a browser, but I
can't seem to send this doc as the body of an email.

Once I change the coding, the Email function errors out.

Can this be done?

Thanks,
Michael

Sure, email_send supports the -characterSet parameter — so you should be
able to specify the character set there:

Think that exists in older versions also.
