Fresh Lasso 9.3.1 Install

Mark Palmer
Hi,

Lasso 9.3.1 and Mac OS X 10.11.4

I’ve decided to try and covert my own framework to Lasso 9 having last
looked at it years ago and giving up because of the docs.

I have installed Lasso-Server-for-Mac-9.3.1-5BETA and can get the
interface up at http://localhost:8090/lasso9/lux/spitfire There was no
previous Lasso 9 install on my Mac as my previous foray with L9 was on a
different device. Lasso 8 is installed and running OK.

However when I try to create an instance at
http://localhost:8090/lasso9/lux/server/addinstance/ I get a message
saying it is Creating Instance… for about 20 seconds and then I get
dropped back to the Server Status page but no instance is created.

There is nothing whatsoever in /var/lasso/instances

Any ideas? Think of me as a total noob where Lasso 9 is concerned.

Regards

Mark Palmer

I hit that too. Once I restarted lassoim it started working again. Might be time for a Rhinotrac ticket.

What'd you fill the fields with? In my experience, the most common cause of instance creation not working is an invalid user or group being entered. It should work fine when left at their defaults of "_lasso" * "_lasso", which are created by an installer script. If either isn't present (verify in Terminal with `id _lasso`), then that's a problem.

The _lasso u/g is all that works on MacOS. Trying anything else fails. On CentOS I make it run as the user who owns the site. Shouldn't it work the same?

In reply to this post by Steffan A. Cline
Hi Stefan,

I couldn’t find anything that tells me how to restart lassoim so
rebooted my MacBook but that didn’t make any difference whatsoever.

This evening I have tried another new install on an old MacPro running
the same version of Mac OS X 10.11.4 same result - no instance created.

To help me get my head around this thing what are the various ‘bits’
and their relationships? I have LUX, Spitfire, Server Manager and
Instances within the UI running on port 8090 and then in the docs I have
found at http://lassoguide.com/operations/command-line-tools.html
references to lassoim, lasso9 and lassoserver.

Although the docs are headed up 9.2! So am I even in the right place
because that page suggest there should be stuff at
/usr/sbin/lassoserver, /usr/sbin/lassoim and at /usr/bin/lasso9 and
there is nothing there on my system.

I made a small simple script. I’m sure it could be better.

/usr/sbin/lasso9ctl

#!/bin/bash

if [ `id -u` != 0 ]; then
        echo "This script must be run as the system administrator."
        exit 1
fi

case "$1" in
        start)
                launchctl load -w /Library/LaunchDaemons/com.lassosoft.lassoinstancemanager.plist
                ;;
        stop)
                launchctl unload -w /Library/LaunchDaemons/com.lassosoft.lassoinstancemanager.plist
            ;;
        restart)
                launchctl unload -w /Library/LaunchDaemons/com.lassosoft.lassoinstancemanager.plist
                launchctl load -w /Library/LaunchDaemons/com.lassosoft.lassoinstancemanager.plist
                ;;
        status)
                ps axwww | grep lasso | grep -v grep | grep -v lasso9ctl
                ;;
        *)
        echo $"Usage: $0 {start|stop|restart}"
                exit 1
esac

Re: Fresh Lasso 9.3.1 Install

Mark Palmer
Hi Stefan,

I few restarts and re-installs later an I have Lasso 9 running, I have
no idea what the issue was but the documentation showing 9.2 rather than
9.3 made me wary about each step I took.

Once I had it running - confirmed by being able to run lasso code on the
command line I had problems with Internal Server Errors. The apache log
confirmed this was to do with the instance host name

[Wed Mar 30 13:27:22.458554 2016] [http:emerg] [pid 5353] (500)Unknown
error: 500: [client 127.0.0.1:54419] No matching instance host name:
backdrop_l9.dev

Fixed that and I am at least getting [Lasso_Version] -> Mac OS X 9.3.1
in a basic index.lasso page.

Onwards and upwards…

Regards

Mark Palmer
