Filemaker Server 12 Advanced or not

lizquigg
I am trying to understand the thread about this.   I am currently using Lasso Professional 8.5.3.   My data sources are PostgreSQL and Filemaker SA.  I have 45 Filemaker files that are accessed directly in our intranet and also by Lasso.  I am still using Filemaker 9 Server Advanced on a Windows server.   When I purchased the Filemaker Server 9 Advanced, there was a good reason for using the Advanced version, but at this point, I can remember why.  I am planning my upgrade path and I am wondering if I really need the Filemaker Server Advanced.  The reasons to used the advanced version seem to centered around ODBC.   I have no ODBC hosts in Lasso.   Do I need the Advanced version?  It is extremely expensive.  I have a Sept. 27th deadline to get a good price on upgrading to 12 Advanced or 12.

http://www.filemaker.com/products/compare/
http://www.filemaker.com/products/compare/fms_vs_fmsa.html

Here's another reason, but for Lasso 9:
http://lasso.2283332.n4.nabble.com/Lasso-9-FMSA-11-FM-datasource-vs-ODBC-tt3699804.html#a3699922

There have been anecdotal reports that ODBC "feels" faster in
Lasso 8, but I've seen no hard data comparing ODBC against the
Lasso Connector for FMS.  ODBC also has some limitations.
http://help.filemaker.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/6476/

Finally with the upgrade to FMS/A 12, be warned that you will
need to upgrade all your FMP clients to 12, too.

There's hard data available here:

When dealing with hundreds of returned records it appears substantially faster.

Yes, that's for Lasso 9, not 8.  AFAIK, Jono never got the time to conduct the tests.

Oh, yes — I tend to forget about L8.

I imagine that the same applies given it's using effectively the same driver...

It's a reasonable assumption, but... yanno... hard data blah
blah... reproducible tests blah blah...
