Filemaker Courseware

Mason Miller
I may be heading up to Iqaluit, Nunavut to teach a class on FileMaker. Does anyone have courseware they can recommend? Intro material up to just short of advanced would be preferable. These will be 4-5 day classes, possibly broken into two 4-day sessions.

Thanks,

Mason Miller

Re: Filemaker Courseware

Steffan A. Cline
I have a few clients that still use FMP. I’m hosting the DBs in FM Server.

Thankfully only one uses it on the web. I’ve been pushing her to get off of it.

On a side note, I use Oracle a LOT at work now. I’m really seeing why it’s definitely geared for the enterprise markets. The parallelism is one that really impresses me. More cores=more parallel processes=FAR faster results.

I love MySQL but sadly Oracle has it beat in many ways. I’m slowly seeing some of the MySQL features making it into Oracle but still not as forgiving. Just wish it was more affordable to end users.

Thanks,
Steffan Cline

FileMaker used to provide FTS (FileMaker Training Series) materials that was organized like courseware, it's somewhat dated but still good for learning the basics:

        https://www.filemaker.com/learning/archived-learning-resources.html

After FileMaker 15 they decided to change up how they provided learning material, try looking here:

Miles Works:  while FileMaker may not be a solution for every environment, it’s a pretty kickass development platform with a ton of capabilities and enables extremely rapid development.  There’s really very little that can’t be accomplished with it, and if you haven’t seen it recently, you haven’t seen it.  See https://www.zdnet.com/product/filemaker-16-platform/, https://www.zdnet.com/product/filemaker-17-platform/ and https://www.capterra.com/p/162784/FileMaker/

Mason Miller:  there’s a lot of stuff on Lynda.com, Udemy.com, YouTube, etc that you could use as a reference, and of course FileMaker themselves have a lot of materials at https://www.filemaker.com/learning/ that you could use to build a course.

I use FM 17 in  our office on the desktop as a front -end to our MySQL databases. I store no data in FM, just use is a fast way to build apps.
