FileMaker Server 15

Carl Ketterling
Does anyone have experience with FileMaker 15 licensing and Lasso? I’d like to know how Lasso connections affect the connection-based licensing.

Carl

Hi Carl,

FileMaker Server has been all over the map regarding Lasso connections over the past 10 years, it's gotten better but is still confusing. Lasso connects to FileMaker 15 via XML and it's Web Publishing Engine (WPE). These XML connections do not count against the connection-based licensing FileMaker is referring to, documented here:

        https://fmhelp.filemaker.com/help/15/fms/en/index.html#page/fms/config_connections.html

I have a Lasso website that uses FileMaker 15 as a datasource, Lasso generates about 10,000 XML requests per hour. These connections are not limited in anyway, however, FileMaker Server does have a setting that limits the "Maximum Number of Custom Web Publishing Connections" at any given time, documented here:

        https://www.filemaker.com/help/15/fms/en/index.html#page/fms/config_webpub_general.html

I believe this setting defaults to 200, which is what my server is set to, but I've never come close to needing that many.

If you don't need Web Direct or FileMaker Go connections then you don't need to purchase any additional FileMaker Server "connection" licenses.

Hope that helps,
Max

Connection-based licensing only affects web direct, iOS and regular FM
clients. Web publishing via XML or PHP are not affected by this.
