Extract data from simple JSON result Lasso 6

Laurent-40
Hi,

Here is a simple example of JSON result :

http://api.ipinfodb.com/v3/ip-city/?key=<mykey>&ip=74.125.45.100&format=jso
n

{
        "statusCode" : "OK",
        "statusMessage" : "",
        "ipAddress" : "74.125.45.100",
        "countryCode" : "US",
        "countryName" : "United States",
        "regionName" : "California",
        "cityName" : "Mountain View",
        "zipCode" : "94043",
        "latitude" : "37.406",
        "longitude" : "-122.079",
        "timeZone" : "-08:00"
}

How do I extract those values to Lasso variables ?

Thanks,

Lauren

Take a look at this tag. I'm not sure if there is any code in here that is
not compatible with Lasso 6, but I'm sure you'd get syntax errors if it
was. Test it first within a simple example and if it works, install it in
your startup folder:

As has been pointed out, what you do is install the encode_json/decode_json tags.

But, I also suggest that you skip the create variables idea. The json you used in your example will be decoded into a Lasso map. Put the entire map into a variable and grab the data from the map when needed.

Hm, was going to write a code example here but it’s been so ducking long since I wrote Lasso 6 code I don’t remember it anymore. Could Lasso 6 handle parens syntax or was it only colons?

Thanks, Lasso 8.6 could handle parens syntax, so if you can write an
example it could be very useful because actually i'm confused about that
method.

Re: Extract data from simple JSON result Lasso 6

Johan Solve
decode_json is included in 8.6.

var('response'=decode_json(include_url('http://api.ipinfodb.com/v3/ip-city/?key=<mykey>&ip=74.125.45.100&format=json')));

That gives you a map $response that you can extract the desired
information from.

Of course add proper error handling, timeouts etc.

Thanks, I've got that:

map: (countryName)=(United States), (statusMessage)=(),
(latitude)=(37.406), (timeZone)=(-08:00), (cityName)=(Mountain View),
(zipCode)=(94043), (ipAddress)=(74.125.45.100), (statusCode)=(OK),
(countryCode)=(US), (regionName)=(California), (longitude)=(-122.079)

But how can I get ipAddress and countryCode into variable?

Re: Extract data from simple JSON result Lasso 6

French, Shelane
If you've saved it into that "response" map variable, you can access the
value as this:
$response->find('ipAddress');
