Client_IP only return 127.0.0.1

David Bergkvist
I moved my Lasso server to a new server and since then Client_IP only return 127.0.0.1

My setup is Mac 10.10.5 Server and Lasso 8.5.6

I guess this is Apache messing things up. Any suggestions on what can be done?

When I had that problem, I reverted to the previous version of OS X Server
application (and restored the Apache directories that it changed).  It¹s
only the latest update (OS X Server v5.0.15) that¹s caused me problems, so I
don¹t install that update.

I don’t think 8.5.6 is technically supported to run on that version of OS X / Apache. If I remember correctly, the biggest thing to change in the source code to get the Apache connector to compile for Apache 2.4 was the different function names for getting the client and server IP addresses. It sounds to me like there might be something wrong with the Lasso Apache connector you’re using.

Well, I don’t have any previous version to roll back to since the server was updated before Lasso and all other stuff moved in.

But it workes for you Carl on 10.10.5 with Lasso 8.5.6? Did you make your own LassoConnector for Apache or what version are you running?

If it really only is the Serverapp and the changes it brings in it should be possible to figure out what it changes and fix just that.

Anyone else running Lasso 8.5.6 on Mac 10.10.5?

Re: Client_IP only return 127.0.0.1

Ke Carlton-3
One quick fix / alternative approach would be to have Apache set a custom
header with the client ip address and then modify the client_ip tag to use
that instead.

ie.  define client_ip => web_request->header('X-Forwarded-For') ||
web_request->remoteAddr

But in Lasso 8 code of course...

Re: Client_IP only return 127.0.0.1

David,

I don't use Lasso 8, but I don't think that's related to your problem.

I believe that OS X Server v5.x implements reverse proxy in front of Apache.
Here are details:
https://help.apple.com/serverapp/mac/5.0/#/apdf37747285

OS X Server v4.x doesn't do that, so I've stayed with that version.  If you
could install a test server with OS X Server v4.x, you could compare the
file lists to see what changed.  I think I restored the OS X Server
application and the /Library/Server/Web/Config/ directory tree to get back
to v4.x.

I hope that helps.

Carl

I think you can eliminate the problem by turning off the web performance cache.

Does OS X Server enable a caching reverse proxy by default? I think
that used to be the case earlier.

Yes, that's what I was thinking about, but didn't see your response.
