Best way to resolve to non-default.lasso

Stephen Smiroldo-4
What is the best method for resolving all site URLs that point to a “/default.lasso” page to just “/“?  For example… if search engines or other sources are using the following URLs, how do you perform a permanent 301 redirect to the non-defaul.lasso version?

https://www.an.edu/about/ <https://www.an.edu/about/> instead of https://www.an.edu/about/default.lasso <https://www.an.edu/about/default.lasso>
or…
https://www.an.edu/admissions/ <https://www.an.edu/admissions/> instead of https://www.an.edu/admissions/default.lasso <https://www.an.edu/admissions/default.lasso>

Are you using Apache?
Maybe a rewrite rule like this? (100% not tested...)

<IfModule mod_rewrite.c>
             RewriteEngine On
             RewriteBase /
             RewriteRule ^(.*)/default\.lasso$ $1/ [R,L,QSA]
</IfModule>

I'm not sure if that's the best, but it's one approach...

If you are running apache on Windows, it doesn’t even need a rewrite IIRC - just change the DirectoryIndex in your http.conf, or create an .htaccess in a subdirectory:

for IIS:
