[ANN] The Rhino

Sean Stephens-2
Greetings!

I introduce to you, the new face of LassoSoft Inc., the Rhino;

http://listening.lassosoft.com/LassoSoft-Logo

After much brand discussion on our end, we have alighted on the Rhino as the symbol of the new era of Lasso. Not only does it represent our revealed destiny to be one of the "Big Five Programming Languages", but it carries with it many of the characteristics and values which we wish to represent and uphold;

- Security (who messes with a rhino?)
- Speed (they can outrun a Gnu)
- Simplicity (leading an uncomplicated life)
- Stability (try knocking one over)
- Scaleability (they duplicate readily)

The fact of a rhinoceros is also a humorous tip of the hat to the fact that community strength has saved the language from almost certain extinction, and is now looking forward to a new era of overpopulation.

I hope you all agree to adopt the rhinoceros as your personal programming mascot while deep in code.

Head down, keep pushing!

Sean Stephens
CEO
LassoSoft Inc.

OK. I get your link from Rhino to Lasso. But looking at it, how will the
outside world? What is your plan for branding this? I'm not being critical
- just curious.

It sure is shinny!

Re: [ANN] The Rhino

Jim Sheffer-3
In reply to this post by Ke Carlton-3
I agree-
Security, Speed & Simplicity.  My choices in the survey exactly!
A great addition, or tagline, to the logo!

Good job!

I'm sure it's easy to say "these are small things" (the new logo, lassotalk, installers (not little by any means!)) compared to some of the other concerns, but I for one am excited to see them.  Rome may not have been built in a day, but in these technological times we expect that to happen more and more!

It's so awesome to see new life being injected into the Lasso product and community and at what I think is an incredible pace.  It lends credence to the statements from Sean (and others at Treefrog) that the manpower is indeed being added to LassoSoft and that the "Phoenix" will soon rise again, bigger and better than ever before!

With all the bickering (and I am guilty of my share) over the past few months, I now look forward to reading the Lassotalk list more than ever before and am even getting excited to "re-wet" my feet with Lasso9 even though I vowed to myself not to touch it until the docs were fully ready.

Thanks to the new LassoSoft team!  I'm sure we all knew that it was the lack of resources and manpower that were the root of much of the bickering and if Kyle, Kerry & Fletcher got the wrong impression, I want to be the first to apologize.  It was all frustration that such a wonderful product and new version was hard to "comprehend" with the lack of full docs, etc...

I remember the days when Starmark took the reigns and the hype and excitement generated from that.  Not trying to detract from that, but this feels different... bigger... better... exciting...

Happy Holidays!

We looked long and hard for an animal that wasn't already spoken for;

http://oreilly.com/animals.html

Our rationalization was: Javascript has the black rhino, so we are claiming the white one.

Or better yet, the blue one?

(PS, Linux Pocket Guide has claimed a "Roper" -  http://oreilly.com/catalog/9781565924000/, so even that land has been claimed)

After much brand discussion on our end, we have alighted on the Rhino as the

Given Sean's musical talents and goal of world domination,  can it be a mere coincidence that he has positioned LassoSoft with both a record company and an official Canadian political party?
